A winner of Annual Alor Divers Photo Contest 2016

Again we have a pleasure to announce the winner of our annual photo contest that was launched in 2010! This year many of our guests competed for the prize of 9 night stay at Alor Divers. Four portfolios were very good and there was a really tight run between the two of them. This years judge was Ludovic Galko, who is himself an experienced and passionate UW photographer.

Farewell turtle hatchlings!

We are excited to announce that the first relocated turtle nest hatched two weeks ago. We have waited long enough to ensure all viable and healthy hatchlings crawled out of the nest before we dug up the remains of the nest to determine the hatching success rate. The count we got was as high as 75% !

Turtle conservation in Alor

In the world there are seven sea turtle species, six of which live in Indonesia: Green turtle (see a photo at the bottom) , Hawksbill turtle, olive ridley, leatherback turtle, flatback turtle and loggerhead sea turtle. The leatherback sea turtle is the largest (up to 2.75 meters length and 600 - 900 kilograms weight! ) and the olive ridley is the smallest, weighing around 50 kilograms.

Alor Divers house reef photo gallery

Our house reef is offering some really nice diving, even excellent when conditions are right! 10 years ago, when we were looking to settle in Alor, we felt lucky to be able to realize our dream plan on a superb land location with fringing reef in such a great condition.

Over 50 hammerheads circling divers for 10 min !!!

Incredible experience and probably the best action dive we ever made!!! We had around 50 hammerheads coming to our group of divers, circling them for over 10 minutes!!! Smaller bunch of hammers was so curious, they decided to take a really good look at bubble-makers and came within 5 meters, while the majority of them stayed at a discrete distance of 15 meters or so :o.

Photo of renovated bungalow

Last 3 months we were full on with repairs and improvements of Alor Divers, getting ready for the 2014 season. One big focus was on improvement of the bungalows. As you can see on the photo below, floor is in tiles and there are new mosquito nets that encompass all the bed. We also have new "crisp" white sheets for all beds except the single ones (next year!) and new towels for everyone.

Fast review of diving lately…

To focus on pelagic first: a couple of Grey Reef Sharks plus Black Tips in Current Alley, Turtle (not plural 🙁 ) and a Giant Travellies, Napolian plus big Tuna at Bama Wall, a big Marble Ray in the south and the top of the tops: a school of 40 Hammerheads in Current Alley !
